My archenemy - The Egg

Ah cooking! I am a self -taught cook like most. No formal training – just a girl, a recipe, and an imagination(and an occasion phone call to my mom for help)!   I love looking at recipes, getting an idea, but rarely follow them. Jake and I were blessed to grow up in a household where our parents did most of the cooking!  My mother loved to baked and would always invite my sister and I to help her, but it never really was my forte.  I think that is why she is so surprised at my interest in it today!

I was fortunate in college to be a member of a sorority, which had a full-time cook.  When I lived in Europe lunch was their biggest meal, which was provided for me by the school I taught in. It was not until I moved to Nebraska that I had to finally fend for myself!  My first task and one I am still trying to master - the egg!  Laugh all you want but it wasn’t until about a year or two ago that I could do more with an egg than just scramble or hard-boil it!

Last night's meal – Open-faced Cheddar, Jalapeno Burgers! The recipe called for a fried egg!  Some days I am the master at this and other days it’s a battle.  Last night the egg won and Jake was summoned to the kitchen to cook the eggs while I grilled the burgers!

Open Faced Jalapeno Cheddar Burgers Recipe

Ingredients
1lb hamburger, turkey burger, or venison burger
2 sliced jalapenos
1/2 c. shredded Mexican cheese
1 tbsp. steak sauce
dash of black pepper
eggs (fried)

Begin by mixing burger, jalapenos, cheese, steak sauce & black peppers in a bowl.

Shape into four patties and throw on the grill!

While burgers are one grill, fry an egg.
(This is my failed attempt)
Husband to the rescue!
Assemble burger on bun, place egg on top with favorite condiments and enjoy!

I love to eat eggs more than I like to cook them!  Someday I will master this art – or maybe I will continue to let this be Jake’s talent!

What is your favorite way to cook an egg?
