I need a weekend to recover from my weekend! Jake and I have been on the go since we left work on Friday and I am utterly exhausted - can’t move from the couch, frozen pizza for dinner, laundry can wait - exhausted!
After I got home from a long day at work on Friday (kindergarten round-up, enough said). I rushed to clean the house, pack, and hit the road! Our destination - Jake’s hometown Friday/Saturday and Creston, Iowa on Sunday!
Jake is a landscape designer and he was approached last year by his high school alumni association to help design and install a patio at the high school. Jake and I helped start the patio last year and on Saturday phase 2 began with Jake in the director seat. Yes, I went along too! Yes, I am not alum but I figured I’d go along to support Jake, work on my tan, and get in my workout! I did exactly that and I am paying for it today –sunburn and soreness! But look what we created!
Jake and I headed back to his mom’s to watch the Kentucky Derby and get ready for his cousins graduation party!
This morning we woke up at 6 am bright eyed and bushy tailed and made the 2 hour trek to Creston, Iowa! My dad is an avid fisherman! I grew up 20 minutes from the Mississippi River and my dad would jump at any chance to take my sister and I fishing! It was a bonus if we could find a weekend for the whole family to go!

A Family Fishing Outing |
My dad and his brother plan an annual fishing trip to Creston, Iowa every year in May! I was so happy that we were able to join them today! Jake and I made a quick stop to purchase our fishing license, boarded my uncle’s boat, fought through increasing winds throughout the day, and emerged with 75 fish caught between the four of us! Despite the wind and sunburn, it was so enjoyable and I was glad that my dad and I were able to see each other this weekend!
Today's Catch |
Jake and I had a great weekend seeing family and friends. Sadly, it is Mother’s Day and Jake nor I got to spend this day with our mom, but sometimes I think the best gift our moms is some time to their self to do whatever they want!
What do you love most about your mom?
My mom is one of the most unselfish and giving people I know, especially of her time! She will drop anything at a moments notice for her kids. She is always willing to help a friend, run here or there, or organize this or that event, despite having little time to herself! Enjoy your day to yourself mom - you deserve it!
